Bewley’s Barista Wojciech Tysler has won the top award for Baristas at the Avonmore Irish Barista Championships which took place at CATEX in February.
Wojciech pipped the other nine finalists to the top spot, and he will now represent Ireland in the leading international coffee competition, the World Barista Championships taking in place in Boston in April.
For the Avonmore Irish Barista Championships, over 50 competitors each prepared 4 espressos, 4 milk drinks, and 4 original signature drinks in a 15-minute performance set to music.
Judges from around the world evaluated each performance on the taste of beverages served, cleanliness, creativity, technical skill, and overall presentation.
Quality & Training
“The team at Bewley’s have believed in me from the outset and I am very grateful for the support and the time that they have given me to be at my best,” Wojciech said.
“I’m looking forward now to the next challenge, representing Ireland and competing at the World Championships in April.”
Bewley’s Managing Director Jason Doyle said he was delighted to see Wojciech take home the award, adding that Bewley’s quality and training are clear to see in Bewley’s history of producing World and Irish Barista Champions.
“Wojciech has been competing at the highest level for 5 years and to see his dedication recognised is a just reward,” Doyle said.
“As the leading coffee roaster in Ireland we are delighted to have the National Barista Champion on our team and we look forward to seeing Wojciech represent Ireland in the World Championships in Boston later this year.”
