Top executives from across the FMCG and grocery retail sectors were in attendance at the Checkout FMCG Awards 2019, which took place at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, yesterday (12 November, 2019).
This year's event was emceed by Irish broadcaster and Newstalk presenter Ivan Yates and a total of 23 awards were presented at the lunchtime event.
The awards, now in their 10th year, paid tribute to the leading brand innovations and marketing campaigns of the past year, with some of the biggest names in the sector being honoured.
"The Checkout National FMCG awards acknowledge excellence in new product development, best-in-class merchandising and sales support, innovation in advertising and marketing, and effective sponsorship campaigns by retailers and suppliers," said Maev Martin, editor, Checkout magazine.
"The awards also recognise brand performance in the annual Checkout Top 100 Brands report, produced by Checkout in association with Nielsen.
“This year we honoured everything from product re-launches to brand new products and promotional initiatives, as well as charitable endeavours and dynamic cross media campaigns. The calibre of entries, nominees and winners was truly outstanding and augurs well for the continued growth and prosperity of Ireland's FMCG sector."
Among the biggest winners were Londis, which claimed the top prize in the Best Sponsorship by a Retailer or Symbol Group category for its Londis Tastes Like Home Campaign with celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio.
The Best Advertising Campaign – Broadcast,TV/Radio went to Tayto for its Tayto Muchos advertisements to promote its new Mexican flavoured crisps, while the popular Brady Family Ham advert from O’Brien Fine Foods scooped the top honours in the Best Advertising Campaign – Online/Digital category.
Heineken Ireland, won no less than four awards, claiming the Best Sponsorship/Brand Association by an FMCG Brand award and the Best Integrated Campaign award for its sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup. Heineken was also named the Branded Supplier of the Year Award (Alcohol) and won the Shopper Marketing Campaign of the Year award for its Heineken 0.0% Zero Zone in-store initiative, which promoted its own low alcohol brand, as well as other non-alcoholic drink options, to customers.
The annual Checkout Brand Legacy Award was presented to Cuisine de France to mark 30 years of successful trading in Ireland.
