Finnebrogue – the pioneering food company dedicated to producing healthier, cleaner-label products – is launching its Naked Ham in Dunnes Stores on 1 March 2025, providing Irish families with a healthier alternative to traditionally processed meats.
The launch follows the success of Finnebrogue’s Naked Bacon, which has been popular among Irish families for seven years.
Now, Finnebrogue is responding to customer requests by bringing the same healthier, great-tasting ham to Irish homes.
Since launching in 2018, Finnebrogue’s Naked range has revolutionised processed meats by eliminating nitrates – a chemical preservative traditionally used in bacon and ham to make them pink in colour.
However, nitrates have been linked to some health risks.
In 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) classified processed meats and those containing nitrates as Group 1 carcinogens, meaning that there is strong evidence that they increase the risk of cancer.
When consumed, nitrates can form carcinogenic nitrosamines in our digestive systems, which are harmful to human health.
Most processed meats contain either sodium or potassium nitrates, but Naked bacon and ham contain no nitrates and are high in antioxidants.
‘Demand Has Been Undeniable’
Speaking about launching Naked Ham in Ireland, Finnebrogue brand manager Stephanie Byers said, “Rather than delaying any further, we’ve responded to overwhelming demand from Irish consumers for a deli ham made without the nasties.
“For the last seven years, Irish consumers have embraced our Naked bacon, made without nitrates, and [they’ve] been asking for a healthier ham, too.
“The demand has been undeniable, and we’re thrilled to deliver exactly what they want – ahead of schedule – and will transition the packaging to new Finnebrogue Naked branding later in 2025.
“Unlike most deli hams, Finnebrogue Naked ham contains absolutely no nitrates.
“With no artificial additives or nasty preservatives, no gluten, and [a] high-protein content, Finnebrogue Naked ham offers a healthier, meatier alternative to traditional deli hams.
“It’s perfect for lunchboxes, sandwiches and everyday meals – without the worry of added nasties.”
Finnebrogue Naked Deli Ham will initially launch in Dunnes Stores in March, at €2.59 for 100g, with the cost subject to specific store pricing.
