Following months of judging, the results of the 2016 Great Taste awards have been released, giving many artisan producers in Ireland cause to celebrate. A total of 430 Irish products were granted the Great Taste accolade, alongside 3,109 UK products and out of a total of 10,000 competitors.
Three Irish brands received the coveted 3-star award: The Tipperary Kitchen's Holycross Original Butterscotch Sauce, which was described by the judges as "beautifully made and executed perfectly"; Nobó's vegan and dairy free Irish Salted Caramel ice cream, complimented as "creamy and attractive"; and Dunnes Store's Irish Handmade All Butter Sticky Toffee Pudding, lauded as "unctuous and moreish, squidgy and moist".
The winner of Great Taste Supreme Champion 2016 and the accreditation scheme's other top awards will be announced at the Great Taste Golden Fork Awards Dinner, at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on 5 September.
Great Taste is a blind-tasted award. Over 500 judges came together to assess this year's entries, among them food critics, chefs, producers, and restaurateurs.
