Mackle Food Company To Invest €7.6m In Expansion

Mackle Food Company has announced its plans to invest €7.6 million in boosting production and creating 32 jobs, the Irish Times reported on Monday.

The Tyrone-based company confirmed its plans to expand its factory, increase automation and boost productivity on Monday, with a £6.3 million (€7.6 million) investment backed by development agency Invest Northern Ireland.

Mackle makes snacks, both as a private label manufacturer and under its own brand, Chloe’s Organics.

This latest investment will allow the company to increase its sales in export markets and create 32 jobs.

Invest Northern Ireland has offered the company almost £970,000, making this expansion the first project supported by the company’s agri-food investment initiative.

‘Continue To Grow’

The managing director of Mackle Food Company John Mackle said that the investment would aid the company in automating its manufacturing, as replacing manual systems with advanced robotics will increase efficiency, cut waste, and significantly expand production.

Mackle said, “This will ensure we are able to continue to grow our business as we expand into new markets and strengthen our relationship with global brands.

“We are creating 32 new roles as part of this investment, including robotics engineers and IT automation support roles.”

Gráinne Moody, the director of food and drink at Invest Northern Ireland, said that automation and digital processes provide real opportunities to increase productivity in the food industry.

Moody said, “Mackle Food Company’s investment will not only improve the efficiency of the business but will bring a welcome boost to the local economy.”

Mackle And Invest

Mackle – established in 2005 – specialises in “puff” snacks, including a range suitable for babies. It makes snacks from natural ingredients including grains, fruits and vegetables.

A key part of the business is manufacturing snacks sold by retailers under their own label, while Dunnes Stores, Aldi and Lidl stock Chloe’s Organics.

Most of what the Dungannon-based food processor makes is exported.

Invest Northern Ireland works with individuals and organisations in manufacturing and services to aid their growth and competitiveness. It has a network of local and international offices.
