Sneem Black Pudding has reportedly been given Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status from the European Union, after a four-year wait.
Produced by Kerry-based Byrne butcher's, the black pudding is the first Kerry food product to get this status, reports Kerryman.
GIs Protection
GIs protect the integrity of European products, and in the case of Sneem Black Pudding specifies that it must be made on the island of Ireland and in accordance with certain production standards.
The square shaped pudding is produced by Kieran Burns and Peter O'Sullivan using a traditional recipe and product method which dates back to the 1950s.
Other Irish products, which were granted GI status in recent months include Irish Whiskey as well as Irish Cream liqueur.
