A new version of the Nestlé classic Walnut Whip minus the nut is to go on sale this week across Ireland and the UK this week.
The walnut which is the key ingredient has been reportedly cut due to a 'price-surge' after claims that nut prices have risen by 20%.
The classic vanilla and caramel versions of the Walnut Whip , a cone of milk chocolate with a fondant filling, will hit the shelves this week under the Nestlé Whip brand, with a mint variant to follow next month, reported Irishtimes.ie
Alison Clinton the brand manager of chocolate classics at Nestlé UK and Ireland said: “These new products will offer consumers more choice, enabling them to share their favourite products with their family and friends.”
The classic Walnut Whip was first produced by Duncans of Edinburgh in 1910 and Nestlé claims one Walnut Whip is eaten every two seconds in the UK.
Reportedly the price increase of the walnut is due to 'strong global demand, particularly in Asis, and a poor crop last year in Chile one of the world’s major producers'.
