Diageo Ireland’s new ‘Learning for Life’ initiative was officially launched at the Guinness Storehouse yesterday by the Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton.
The aim of the programme is to provide real employment opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry for young people in Dublin 8. Learning for Life wants to reduce the amount of young people on the live register and equip them with strong skills that are transferable to the workplace.
The launch marked the completion of a 7-week training programme for the participants. The 14 participants will now embark on work experience within the hospitality and tourism industry.
Speaking at the launch yesterday, Minister Burton said, “Diageo Ireland has shown a commitment to empowering young people in the local Dublin 8 community, with the focus on finding meaningful and sustainable solutions to youth unemployment.”
