Speaking with Checkout Conor Farrell, Alltech said: “We’re incredibly honoured Míl has taken Gold at the Gin Masters. We truly believe that Míl Gin is the best tasting gin on the market at the moment, so to have its excellence acknowledged on a global scale is incredible."
The Gin Master Awards 2019 marked the biggest Global Spirits Masters Awards in history.
Now in its tenth year, the awards are hosted by Spirits Business and have become the gold-standard acknowledgement of excellence in the gin industry.
New Additions
Created by the Pearse Lyons Distillery Míl Gin has recently introduced Míl Gin Spritz, a pre-mixed gin and tonic that has opened up premium gin to a whole new market – offering consumers an on-tap and canned option.
Internationally, Míl Gin has recently launched in the USA, it’s now available in 30 states.
"It’s a really exciting time for Míl, launching to huge success on home shores and looking at rapid expansion internationally. With Míl we have something really special on our hands and we’re delighted those in the know agree with us.” Farrell added.
In just four short months on the Chinese market, Míl has seen listing expand to 300 bars, with Hong Kong close behind, having come to market there in June, the gin maker said.
The small-batch gin is distilled with Almond, Basil, Bergamot Orange, Gooseberry, Juniper, Olives, Orris, Rosemary and Thyme. On the nose it has summer fresh citrus and subtle herb notes of basil, thyme, rosemary and piney juniper. The taste is fresh bittersweet with a clean citrus finish.
Iberian Inspiration
The idea for the gin which was launched in April, 2018 came about through a team of ‘ginthusiasts’ at the newly opened Pearse Lyons Distillery, based in the refurbished St. James Church in Dublin’s Liberties.
They made the connection between this site and the Camino de Santiago in North-West Spain, where tradition has it St. James is buried. The team began exploring recipes for an Iberian-Irish fusion gin.
This voyage of discovery led them to Míl, the mythical Spanish warrior whose descendants are said to have populated Ireland, bringing with them the warm flavours of the sun.
Míl Gin is available nationwide in reputable off-licences, Musgrave, SuperValu, Dunnes Stores, Tesco and The Loop Dublin Airport.
