Online wine seller Naked Wines said on Friday its website is up and running after being down for about an hour due to a surge in early Christmas shopping that led to unprecedented online demand amid the second lockdown.
The company, which had temporarily suspended orders earlier this year after a jump in lockdown-led orders, said its website saw traffic that was three times the level of anything previously recorded.
Pandemic-Driven Boom
The pandemic-driven boom has been benefiting the retailer, which has seen orders surge as more new customers buy online. Restaurants and bars in England are shut as part of a fresh round of curbs and it is likely to further help the company.
"With more people drinking at home than ever, we knew Christmas 2020 was going to be a big one, and planned for more than double the site traffic year on year," Naked Wines UK Managing Director James Crawford said, adding that customers flocking to the site were significantly above its expectations.
