Rugby Star James Lowe Joins Investors At O Brother Brewing

O Brother Brewing today announced that Ireland and Leinster rugby player James Lowe is joining the team as an investor.

Lowe’s investment in the Wicklow-based company is his first venture into the beverage sector and follows a strong year for the independent craft brewer.

Lowe is the second well-known rugby figure to invest in the brewery, following Devin Toner’s investment in the company announced last February.

O Brother recorded a series of milestones in 2024, including deals with Aldi and Tesco, and it marked ten years since its first sale last month.

The company launched three exclusive brews in Aldi Ireland during the year and announced the rollout of its core range in Tesco stores nationwide in September.

The brewery has also completed a major project recently as it switched its base from Kilcoole to the historic Belmont Demsne, near Greystones, in Wicklow last year.

Expressing his happiness to be part of the business, Lowe said, “I’ve always admired the creativity and passion that goes into craft brewing, and O Brother has it all – a great team, exceptional beers, and a vision that’s hard to beat.

“It’s a privilege to be part of this journey and to support an Irish family business that is making such a big impact.”

'Build On Momentum'

Commenting on the addition, CEO of O Brother Brewing Barry O’Neill said, “We’ve just completed a year of real transformation for us, and having someone of James’ calibre join the O Brother tribe at this point is the perfect way to kick off the new year.

“We have lots to do as we build on the momentum of 2024 and we’re looking forward to having James’ support.”

O Brother Brewing production is now in full swing at the Belmont Demesne premises and the company is aiming to open its eagerly anticipated taproom and visitor centre in the coming months.

The team is also continuing to develop its offering and has recently released a new brew called ‘Bookends’ – a collaboration with boutique coffee roasters Roasted Brown, which is based in Kilcoole.

The 5.5% Amber Ale, infused with small-batch Costa Rican coffee, is the latest example of O Brother’s innovative approach to brewing.
