Guinness 0.0 have launched their St. Patrick’s Day campaign with Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson.
As part of the promotion, there will be free pints of Guinness 0.0 available in over 800 locations across Ireland until 18 March.
Pints will be available via the FANZO app, by registering and presenting a voucher in a participating locations.
Attendees of the Six Naitions match at the Aviva Stadium on 16 March will be able to redeem a free pint at a bar serving Guinness 0.0 to celebrate the match with moderation.
Misconceptions
Whether Cillian, Siobhan, Domhnall or indeed Saoirse, Irish names can be challenging for people around the world.
But Ireland has also gotten things lost in translation, and maybe we have been celebrating Lá Fhéile Pádraig all wrong.
The Guinness 0.0 ad, starring Jackson, aims to right some of the wrongs with moderation at the heart of the message.
In the 60 second film, Jackson is faced with the mispronunciation of her name from two well-meaning, green-clad tourists in a pub.
After much back and forth about the pronunciation of ‘Saoirse’, they give up.
The female tourist then asks Jackson in reference to her festive clothing, “Where’s you green?”
Jackson is then told by the barman that, actually, St. Patrick donned blue rather than the famous green.
Jackson is then set on a journey of discovery, thinking about other misconceptions.
She aims to set the record straight, and she starts by celebrating the national holiday with a Guinness 0.0.
‘A Message Of Moderation’
On the campaign, marketing director at Guinness Ireland Alan McAleenan said, “We are delighted to be championing Guinness 0.0 and a message of moderation for St. Patrick’s Day, a time to come together to celebrate our heritage and culture.”
Jackson said, “I am delighted to partner with Guinness 0.0 this St. Patrick’s Day to address some of the biggest misconceptions around Irish culture.
“Since the early days of my career, I’ve encountered countless people having trouble pronouncing my name.
She concluded, “So, from mispronunciation of our names to misunderstanding how we should be celebrating, I’m delighted to team up with Guinness 0.0 to encourage people to give moderation a seat at the table this St. Patrick’s Day.”
