SuperValu has announced details of a new €200,000 contract with Brú Brewery, which includes exclusive rights to the microbrewery’s new 500ml gluten-free lager, available in store from November.
The new deal comes as SuperValu reveals that it contributes €2 million each year to the Irish craft beer sector, of which it holds a 20% market share with a 66% year-on-year increase in sales.
Managing Director of SuperValu, Martin Kelleher commented, “We’re delighted to support this emerging sector and help Irish microbreweries grow, particularly as we are able to offer them the opportunity to supply to individual stores given our local ownership structure.”
Brú Brewery has been trading with SuperValu since 2013, and has doubled the number of cases it supplies to the retail each year since.
The latest contract comes after the Irish craft brewery won three awards at the 2015 World Beer Awards, and will allow it to create three new jobs.
David O’Hare, co-founder of Brú Brewery said, “We are delighted that our partnership with SuperValu continues to grow.”
“SuperValu is the biggest supporter of the Irish craft beer market amongst the grocery retailer and their support is enabling us and other microbreweries to thrive,” he added.
