Lidl Ireland is on the search for Ireland’s fastest milker, as it prepares to showcase its innovative Lidl Farm experience at the National Ploughing Championships next week.
Located in Lid’s regional distribution centre in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, the Lidl Farm is a free educational farm-to-fork experience developed in partnership with Agri Aware.
It educates school pupils on the farm-to-fork story, food provenance, and best practices in farming.
Visitors to Lidl Ireland’s stand at the National Ploughing Championships will get a taste of the Lidl Farm experience, hosted over the three days by Daithí Ó Sé.
There will be a very special guest appearance by The Late Late Toy Show star and young farmer Sheamie Garrihy on Tuesday 17 September.
Families can enjoy a fully interactive exhibition, featuring vegetable patch-picking, fun quizzes and games, as well as a replica Lidl Farm train.
There will also be a milking parlour, where everyone can compete in the retailer’s ‘Legendairy’ competition to crown Ireland’s fastest milker with Lidl Moo, the mechanical cow.
The fastest competitor to fill the pail will win a €250 Lidl voucher that she/he/they can subsequently spend in store.
Alongside the Lidl Farm experience, visitors can also step into the Kickstart Kitchen and enjoy cooking demos, taste tests, and samples of quality home-grown products.
The kitchen will have products from Irish suppliers taking part in the retailer’s Kickstart Supplier Development Programme, ahead of the products going on sale nationwide on Thursday 19 September.
‘Something For All The Family’
Speaking ahead of the event, presenter Ó Sé said, “I’m delighted to partner with Lidl Ireland to host the Lidl Farm experience at the National Ploughing Championships this year.
“It’s great to be able to bring a piece of the Lidl Farm to Ratheniska, and to the thousands of attendees set to enjoy this year’s event.
“With so much to see and do all under one roof, there really is something for all the family – from a milking competition with big prize giveaways to games and exhibits and tasting the best local Irish produce from the Kickstart Kitchen.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Lidl stand to join in what is simply a great celebration of Irish food and agriculture.”
Lidl is the only supermarket retailer in the country to have its own farm experience and to provide free educational tours in partnership with Agri Aware to school pupils across Ireland.
