100 Orchards In An Hour To Mark Ireland's Centenary

Grow It Yourself (GIY) and SAP Landscapes have teamed up to encourage schools, workplaces or community groups to plant 100 new orchards simultaneously, reported Irishtimes.ie

The idea is that the orchards will all be planted within the space of an hour between 11am and 12pm on Saturday, November 26th to create 100 orchards in an hour to mark Ireland’s centenary.

According to GIY’s Community Manager Karen O’Donohoe, the activity will create a lasting legacy for Ireland, “We are very proud to launch what will be an edible lasting legacy during the 1916 centenary celebrations and we are delighted to partner with SAP Landscapes to also mark their 40th anniversary which is also this year."

GIY and SAP Landscapes donated the fruit tree packs free of charge. The 'Orchard in an Hour’ packs, each contained a selection of five apple, pear and plum trees, which were released last week on a first-come first-served basis to communities who expressed an interest in participating in the group planting.

The allocation of free tree packs have already been allocated. However, you can still get involved. For further information visit: giyinternational.org
