88.6% of households buy eggs at least once a month, research shows.
To celebrate World Egg Day 2023, which falls today (Friday 13 October) research conducted by Coyne Research on behalf of Bord Bia reveals that the egg is climbing the meal rankings with 73% of Irish adults now eating eggs for lunch with 66% of Irish adults considering eggs for dinner.
Commenting on the findings, Rachel Doyle, marketing manager, Bord Bia, said, “It’s clear from the research that eggs have never been more popular, and for good reason, as they offer unrivalled versatility and are a great source of nutrition for all the family.
"This World Egg Day, we’re encouraging consumers to seek out and purchase eggs with the Bord Bia Quality Mark.
"By choosing eggs with the Quality Mark, consumers can trust that they have been produced to the highest Bord Bia standards which are verified at every stage.”
'Craic On'
Bord Bia has teamed up with former Leinster and Ireland rugby player, Devin Toner, and author and entrepreneur, Aoibhín Garrihy, to encourage Irish consumers to ‘Crack On’ in the kitchen with Bord Bia Quality Assured eggs.
The pair have created their favourite egg dishes, showcasing just how versatile eggs can be as a meal option for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as being nutritious, delicious and full of protein.
Speaking about how important eggs were for his match preparation, Toner, stated, “During my professional rugby career for Leinster and Ireland, I always used eggs on match days because it’s an easy way to get that all important protein hit.
"Poached or scrambled eggs were easy to do in the mornings, or steak and eggs for dinner after training or matches. Even now, as I’m retired, I’m always looking to maintain a high level of protein in my diet.
"Quality produce is so important to me when shopping for the family, so I always look for the Bord Bia Quality Mark as it gives me the reassurance I’m looking for. I know that to achieve that Quality Mark the produce must be of the highest standards.”
Garrihy, added, “Eggs have always featured as part of our breakfast dishes, but it’s not just for the morning. They are incredibly versatile – you can create so many quick, easy and delicious recipes that the whole family can enjoy, at any time of the day and for any meal occasion.”
