The UK is going to remain a very important market for Irish mushrooms in particular, according to Paul Wilson, vice chairman, Monaghan Mushrooms.
He added, “we simply can't ship them anywhere else.”
Wilson outlined that Irish mushroom producers have no choice but to focus on the UK despite Brexit, reports The Irish Independent.
"The perishable product will not allow you to bring them anywhere else, maybe northern France, but realistically we have to focus on the UK," he said at an event organised by DCU's Brexit Institute.

Headquartered in Tyholland, the company supplies 50% of its retail mushrooms in the UK, such as Asda, Waitrose, M&S, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl.
Wilson highlighted that in the event of Brexit, in order to prepare the company is reportedly looking to add value to its mushrooms using biotechnology.
The agribusiness employs over 3,500 staff worldwide.
