Aldi Ireland today announced that it will be trialling new 100% recyclable paper packaging across two of its toilet paper and kitchen towel products.
The retailer said that, if successful, the new paper packaging could help remove 166 tonnes of non-recyclable plastic packaging from stores in Ireland each year across Aldi’s toilet paper and kitchen towel ranges.
From 3 August, customers will find the new 100% recyclable paper packaging around Aldi’s Saxon Blast Kitchen Towels and Luxury Toilet Paper nine pack.
“Customers are guaranteed that the new 100% recyclable paper packaging is still of the same robust quality as before," said John Curtin, group buying director, Aldi.
Sales Increase
Sales of Aldi’s toilet paper and kitchen towels have grown in recent months, increasing year-on-year by over 25% between March and June.
"Sales of toilet paper and kitchen towels have risen significantly since the beginning of Covid-19, supporting the drive for an ever-increasing need for eco-friendly initiatives as we move towards a more sustainable future,” Curtin added.
