Glanbia Consumer Foods Ireland has started work on a new blow moulding plant at its Ballitore fresh milk packaging facility in Kildare. The new plant will allow it to produce its own High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic milk bottles.
This latest development will bring total investmemt in the Ballitore facility over the last five years to €27 million, and will be run as part of a partnership agreement between Glanbia Consumer Foods and Nampak Plastics.
The contract between the two companies is worth nearly €10 million per year.
The new blow moulding plant removes the need for 40 truck deliveries per week to the site, and reduces the plant’s carbon footprint to 250 per annum.
The construction phase will also create 25 new jobs and is expected to be completed by June 2016.
Colin Gordon, CEO Consumer Foods Ireland, said that the news ‘is further testimony to Glanbia Consumer Food’s commitment to the development of the liquid milk market in Ireland’.
Eric Collins, Managing Director of Nampak Plastics Europe, added, “We are extremely excited about the agreement with Glanbia and this opportunity for Nampak to expand into Ireland. We’re thrilled to be building a new relationship with Glanbia and look forward to an exciting future as we aim to grow together.”
