Repak Issues Final Call For Pakman Awards With Extended Deadline

Repak has extended its deadline for entries to the annual Pakman Awards to 6 September as it issues its final call.

The extension offers an extra week for those still working on their submissions.

Marking a decade of recognising outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability, the Pakman Awards highlight the achievements of businesses, community groups and individuals across Ireland.

This year’s awards are especially significant with the introduction of two new categories: Best Deposit Return Initiative, which acknowledges the impact of Ireland’s new Deposit Return Scheme, and Best Single Use Plastic Initiative, celebrating efforts to minimise the use of single-use plastics.

Over the past ten years, the Pakman Awards have earned a reputation as the leading environmental accolades in Ireland, honouring those who go above and beyond in their recycling and waste management efforts.

In 2023, the awards introduced the ESG Leader category, and subsequently crowned Sian Young from Britvic the inaugural winner for her exceptional contributions.

The Overall Pakman Award last year went to The Killarney Park & The Ross for their groundbreaking work in making Killarney Ireland’s first town to phase out single-use coffee cups, thus providing a powerful example in circular economy practices.

This year, Repak will issue awards in 13 categories, including ESG Leader Award, Environmental Education and Community Initiative Award, the Plastic Pledge Award and the Business Recycling Champion Award.

Entrants are encouraged to submit their initiatives and projects that have made a difference in the past 12 months, with more information on how to enter available at www.pakmanawards.repak.ie /

The awards ceremony will take place on 24 October at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.

‘Remarkable Efforts’

Speaking about the tenth annual Pakman Awards, the chief executive of Repak Zoë Kavanagh said, “This year marks a significant milestone for Repak as we launch the 10th annual Pakman Awards, introducing two new categories: Best Deposit Return Initiative Award and Best Single Use Plastic Initiative Award.

“The Best Single Use Plastic Initiative Award highlights efforts to reduce the impact of single-use plastics, while the best Deposit Return Initiative Award celebrates the achievements from the initiatives implemented across the country since the launch of the scheme earlier this year.

“We invite all businesses, organisations, individuals and community groups to enter this year’s awards and share their progress in creating a more sustainable Ireland.

“Over the past decade, we have received thousands of applications from organisations dedicated to promoting best practices in recycling.

“Their achievements and innovative approaches have continually impressed us.
