Smurfit Kappa has announced the appointment of Anne Anderson to the Board as an independent, non-executive Director with effect from 1 January 2019.
Anderson is an experienced international diplomat who most recently served as the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States.
She is a member of the Advisory Board for the Peace-building Fund at the United Nations. She is also a Board member of the Druid Theatre Galway.
Experienced Diplomat
Anderson joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and was appointed Assistant Secretary General in 1991 serving in this post until 1995.
From 1995 to 2001, she was Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and in 2001 she became Permanent Representative of Ireland to the European Union.
She was then appointed Ambassador of Ireland to France in 2005, where she served until 2009 before she became Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York.
Then, in 2013, Anderson became the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States of America, serving until 2017.
