Ardagh Group has announced that it has won a World Beverage Innovation Award (WBIA) for its Recycled Glass Briquettes project.
Now in its 18th year, the awards recently took place at BrauBeviale, Nuremberg in Germany.
The global supplier of recyclable, metal and glass packaging, explained that the Recycled Glass Briquettes project is a method of producing re-meltable briquettes (akin to dishwasher tablets) from the fine particle glass which is rejected during the recycling process.
The group highlighted that the innovative recycling method allows for the 100% of recycled glass to be remelted into new glass bottles and jars.
'Closing The Glass Loop'
Brendan O’Meara, from Ardagh’s European Glass Cullet team, who spearheaded the project said: “Receiving these industry awards is such amazing recognition of the effort put into the project by everyone involved, to prove the concept of re-meltable briquettes produced from glass cullet fines, closing the glass loop.”
