Aldi Ireland plans to expand its premium range of private label products under the Specially Selected brand by more than a third (34%), after positive sales last year.
Sales of Aldi’s premium tier foods grew by 24% last year, as an increasing amount of Aldi shoppers seek out products such as steaks, wines and artisan dairy.
Now the retailer plans to increase the Specially Selected offering to over 100 products, adding items such as Honey Baked Ham, produced by Countrystyle Foods based in Grannagh, Co. Waterford, Lassi Yogurt Drink, supplied by Nomadic Dairy in Co. Donegal and Irish Angus Topside Beef, supplied by Hogans Turkeys of Kells, Co. Meath.
Finbar McCarthy, Group Buying Director Aldi Ireland commented, "The introduction of our new luxury Specially Selected lines is in response to a marked shift in Irish consumer shopping habits whereby consumers are tending to choose more premium products.
"Our customers tell us they want a little bit of luxury in their weekly grocery shop without the hefty price tag. They know we provide great quality at prices our competitors cannot compete with."
The news comes as Aldi introduces 150 new product lines to its stores, increasing its overall product range by 11% in order to meet the growing demand of its customers.
