Discount retailer Aldi has announced that Ava Pierce’s award-winning Lemon Drizzle Cake is now on sale in 137 Aldi stores nationwide for €2.49.
The cake has reached Aldi’s shelves after 15-year-old Pierce from Gorey, Co. Wexford was crowned the winner of the National Junior Baking Competition.
Along with her cake being stocked in stores nationwide, Pierce also won a €1,000 bursary fund due to her baking skills.
Junior Bakers
“The creations that came from the young people last year were outstanding and this years’ finalists should be equally proud of their final products,” Aldi group buying director John Curtin, said.
“We are looking forward to seeing Ava’s winning Lemon Drizzle Cake on the shelves of all 137 Aldi stores nationwide.”
The National Junior Baking Competition offers young people an opportunity to showcase their baking skills and win great prizes. County and regional finals were held nationally through Foróige, and the final was held last year in Cook’s Academy in Dublin.
“This competition encourages young people to think about good produce, it helps them hone their baking craft and it exposes them to a whole new world of manufacturing,” Sean Campbell, CEO of Foróige said.
“I can’t think of a better opportunity for a junior baker than bringing a product to market with our supermarket partner Aldi.
“We want to thank Aldi for their continued support of Foróige’s work and their belief in the brilliance of our young bakers.”
