Irish shoppers are putting their pets first this Christmas, according to Tesco, as the retailer’s latest figures show that the demand for Christmas gifts and seasonal themed treats for pets increased sharply as the countdown to Christmas continues.
The figures go further to reveal that shoppers in Naas, Co. Kildare and Arklow, Co. Wicklow lead the pack in buying seasonal gifts for pets.
They also offered an insight into the rivalry between cats and dogs, revealing that dog gifts, such as Doggie Advent Calendars have outsold Cat Advent Calendars in store.
Pets' Christmas Range
This year the retailer has launched a range of Christmas themed pet food, such as Mince Pies for Dogs (which are dominating the shopping list, according to Tesco), Christmas Pudding Biscuits, and Pigs in Blankets Biscuits.
“We shouldn’t forget our much-loved four-legged friends in our families this Christmas. At Tesco our range of specially selected treats are going down a storm with pets; and pet owners,” Aisling Pearce said, senior buyer, Tesco Ireland.
“Our east coast stores are hand over paw outselling the rest of the country; so we’re calling on pet owners in the rest of the country to consider their four-legged friends in the festive shop.”
Tesco’s Christmas Pet food range features a selection of meals and treats so they can enjoy a Christmas dinner of their own.
