Tesco Ireland has recently launched a plant based steak which Dutch manufacturer Vivera has described as being 'barely distinguishable from real steak' in its taste, texture, and smell.
"This week we’ve launched the Vivera Veggie Steak," said Joe Manning, Fresh & Frozen Foods Director, Tesco Ireland,
"it’s an entirely plant based product that’s made to imitate the look, flavour and texture of traditional animal-based steak; including the use of natural, plant-based colouring to create the pink centre."
Meat-Free Steak Alternative
Exclusive to Tesco the meat-free steak alternative is made from soya and wheat protein with added iron and vitamin B12.
"It’s ideal for customers seeking to add something different to their diet when it comes to meat-free alternatives." Manning added.
The Vivera Plant Based Steak, is currently available in 42 Tesco Ireland stores from this week; RRP €4.00.
Follow Suit
In June 2018, several large supermarket chains will reportedly follow in the Netherlands and from the second half of 2018 Vivera will also sell the product in other countries in Europe, starting with Germany, France and Italy; and now Ireland.
