The latest Consumer Insights survey from Empathy Research has found that more than nine out of ten (92%) Irish consumers with children buy ham as part of their weekly shop.
The survey also found that more than eight out of ten (85%) of all Irish consumers purchase the pork product.
According to the survey of 1,037 consumers, pre-packed ham is the most popular type of ham purchased by Irish buyers. Half of Irish ham buyers (51%) said that they only buy pre-packed ham.
When it comes to brands of ham, almost two-fifths of ham buyers (38%) said that they only purchase branded ham. Interestingly, less than 1 in 10 Irish ham buyers (9%) said they buy own label ham only.
Seven out of ten Irish ham buyers believe promotions on pre-packed ham products encourage them to purchase from the category. Again, significantly more participants with children (76%) were of this opinion compared to those without children (66%).
