Did you know… Sandwich chain Subway has announced a partnership with Basketball Ireland, as sponsors of the new Subway All Ireland Schools Cup? Subway will sponsor the schools tournament for a three year period. Speaking about the sponsorship, Neil Black, Subway Ireland Development Agent said, “Our stores are all locally owned and operated by individual franchisees who work in the heart of local communities. We wanted to find a way that would support young athletes in their pursuit of excellence as they represent their schools and their communities."

Did you know… 61% of Irish consumers are fans of price marked packs, as it reassures them the price of a particular product is reasonable? The research was carried out by him! International in a myriad of different countries. 73% of Russian respondents said that they liked price marked packs, which was the highest percentage recorded. The global average was 57%.

The report added that voluntary origin labelling would represent a “suitable option without imposing additional burden on the industry and the authorities.”

Did you know… Pernod Ricard, which owns Jameson whiskey, has said it is targeting demand for higher priced spirits in Asian markets and the US to spur its sales growth? According to chief executive Alexandre Ricard, the company is aiming to drive between 4% and 5% growth.

Did you know… Aldi has apologised for wrongfully seeking PPS numbers from job applicants, after it came to the attention of a senior official in the Department of Social Protection that the retailer had asked for PPS numbers on an online job application form? According to the Irish Examiner, Aldi was told employers could only ask for PPS numbers when a person was starting employment only for the purpose of transacting with Revenue.

Did you know… Trade union SIPTU has called on management at C&C Gleeson to meet with union representatives? The meetings are to start a process of engagement in relation to a proposed restructuring of the drinks company, which could result in up to 25 job losses. SIPTU Organiser, Terry Bryan, commented, “This news is very worrying for the workers involved and their families.”
