The latest edition of the Sunday Times Rich List puts the family behind Dunnes Stores at the head of the grocery wealth league table, with Frank Dunne leading the charge with a net worth of €445 million, up from €441 million a year earlier.
Dunne ranks 19th on the list, while his sister Margaret Heffernan ranks 25th, with an estimated net worth of €389 million, roughly on a par with her net worth last year (€390 million).
Other Dunne family members also rank highly on the list, with Sharon, Brian, Paul and Sean McMahon ranking 24th (€395 million), and Anne Dunne ranked 40th (€246 million). Ben Dunne ranks 68th with €151 million, down from €158 million a year earlier.
The Mackeown family, the second largest shareholder in the Musgrave Group, are in 52nd position, with an estimated net worth of €187 million, while Peter J and Mary Musgrave are just behind in 55th, with a net worth of €186 million. Anthony Musgrave (165th, €67 million) and Nicholas Musgrave (215th, €46 million) are other Musgrave family members that make the list.
Superquinn founder Feargal Quinn is ranked 75th on the list, with a net worth of €139 million, while other grocery-related names to feature on the list include Des Pettitt (146th, €74 million), Martin and Geoffrey Agnew of the Henderson Group (183rd, €60 million), wholesalers Gabriel, Terence and Leo Mangan (206th, €55 million) and John Clohisey of BWG Foods (237th, €46 million).
The list is topped by Hilary Weston, wife of English-Canadian retail entrepreneur Galen Weston, whose net worth is valued at €8.8 billion.
