Did you know… The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association says that every €10 spent locally on Irish products generates €24 of benefit to the local community? It says that 45 cents of every Euro spent in Irish SMEs is reinvested locally, compared with only 15 cents spent in foreign multiples. The ISME has called on Irish shoppers to support their local economy by shopping at SME’s and buying Irish products.
Did you know… Aramark's deal to take over Avoca has been cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission? The CCPC made the announcement on its website yesterday, saying that 'the Commission has formed the view that the proposed transaction will not substantially lessen competition in any market for goods or services in the State'. The proposed transaction was notified to the CCPC on 13 November.
Did you know... Coffee shop chain Insomnia has partnered with Primark to open outlets in Penneys stores in Athlone, Swords and Waterford? According to The Sunday Times, sources say that if these trial coffee shops are successful, Insomnia could be rolled out across Penneys stores nationwide, as well as in Primark outlets in the UK.
Did you know… In a bid to appeal to more health conscious consumers, Cadbury is exploring new variants for its Milk Tray range that include fillings made with beetroot, wasabi and even kale? The Daily Telegraph reports that while the vegetable fillings are unlikely to appear in boxes in their current form soon, they could shape future flavours.
Did you know… Northern Irish coffee producer Pure Roast Coffee has announced the completion of a £350,000 investment that is set to triple its output for coffee products such as single serve pods, whole beans and ground coffee? The brand has installed a new Loring convection roaster at its Lisburn facility, which offers significant energy savings.
Did you know… Luxury shirt company Thomas Pink has been refused permission to turn its Dawson Street Store into a café? Dublin City Council found that turning the store into a coffee shop would “be contrary to the primary objective” of the premises’ designation, and “would result in an erosion of the retail character of the street”, The Sunday Times reported.
Did you know… An error on Marks & Spencer’s Irish website saw one of this year’s ‘must-have’ toys, the Star Wars BB-8 Droid, offered for half price? Another discount code circulated online allowed for a further discount. The Irish Mirror reports that despite the error, the retailer has chosen to honour the orders at the discounted price.
Did you know… Handmade fudge producer Blackthorn Foods has launched a new range of dairy, gluten and Soya-free products? The new range of 90g packs from the Northern Irish producer features four flavours, Madagascan Vanilla, Chocolate, Stem Ginger and Chocolate and Chocolate and Orange, and has been developed to meet the growing market demand for Free From options.
