Did You Know ... The eir Elevation Awards 2016 were announced last week and are calling on entries from Ireland’s fastest growing companies of 2016? The awards aim to recognise Ireland's fastest-growing companies with a focus on innovation, international scalability, differentiation and strategic investment.

Did You Know ... A new shopping trolley design is making life easier for families with special needs in Northern Ireland? The special design has an open front to allow easy transfer and is suitable for children up to 35kg. More than 1,500 of the GoTo Shop trolleys are being made available in supermarkets across Northern Ireland and the UK, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Dunnes.

Did You Know ... Smurfit Kappa has been awarded the European Innovation Recognition Award for outstanding innovation proposals by Nestlé Fibre Packaging Categories for the second yeaer running? Stephane Coureau from Nestlé commented, saying; “This award is well-deserved recognition for the relentless energy Smurfit Kappa has put into proposing innovative solutions to Nestlé.”

Did You Know ... UK retailers are moving away from multibuy and Y for £X promotions? Around 40% of grocery sales are through promotions, but retailers are looking to simplify their price reductions in order to better compete with the Hard Discounters.

Did You Know ... The European Commission has authorised three GM soybeans for sale in Europe? The MON 87708 x MON 89788, MON 87705 x MON 89799 and FG 72 varieties received a favourable scientific opinion by the European Food Safety Authority in 2015. Every year, 34 million tonnes of soybeans are imported into the EU.

Did You Know ... Donegal-based digital food safety company Kelsius announced a six figure deal with international fast food chain Five Guys? The company's FoodCheck system, which allows the remote monitoring of food and storage temperatures, is already being supplied to SuperValu and Centra locations across Ireland.

Did You Know ... The Irish Times Best Shop 2016 shortlist will be announced on Saturday 6 August? The newspaper sought public nominations for the competition, and the overall winner will be decided by the end of the month.
