SuperValu has confirmed to Retail Intellgence that the departure of wine buyer Richard Moriarty will have 'no impact' on the retailer's plans to develop its wine range.
Moriarty, who joined the Musgrave team as part of the Superquinn rebranding, left Musgrave on Monday to take up a marketing role within Findlater Wine & Spirit Group.
The former head of the Superquinn wine buying operation, it was he, along with SuperValu wine buyer Kevin O'Callaghan, who was tasked with creating a 'best of both worlds' wine selection, following the news that Superquinn would be rebranded as SuperValu.
In a statement, SuperValu thanked Moriarty for his 'contribution to our business', adding that the 'SuperValu wine team continues to be led by Kevin O’Callaghan, whose expertise has driven strong growth in SuperValu’s wine sales; a trend which has continued this year since the name change in February'.
It added: 'SuperValu prides itself in how it develops and nurtures supplier relationships and our wine team are no different. The integration [of the SuperValu and Superquinn wine selections] has been led by Kevin O’Callaghan and Richard Moriarty’s departure will have no impact on the plan to further develop our wine range'.
