SuperValu Carndonagh has just announced it's 'Quiet Evening' initiative, which it tested out last Tuesday (30 May).
In support of those with additional needs who may find shopping difficult, the store has committed to making every Tuesday night in June from 6-8:30pm a time where shoppers can experience a more relaxed environment.
Some of the changes made to the store during these hours include: a reduced the number of lights on in the store, relaxing music being played, sensory lamps at the tills, and two 'Quiet Checkouts' away from the usual tills. The store also provided earplugs, stress balls, and shopping lists with pictures upon their arrival.
Due to the positive response from that night, SuperValu Carndonagh have decided to extend the program throughout the month of June. If it continues to be a success, they will consider making it a permanent feature. Irish Autism Action were there to help and support the store as well.
