US retailer Target has made its range available to Irish consumers for the first time, via the launch of intl.target.com, an international version of its e-commerce website.
Ireland is one of 200 countries selected for the rollout of the service.
While customers outside of the US are not be able to buy food and drinks, the international site does offer pet care, laundry care, and personal care, along with apparel for men, women and children and other non-perishable goods.
Target says that prices offered by the site are the same as those offered in the US on Target.com, however delivery charges will apply. Prices can be shown in nearly 60 different currencies.
In a statement, Jason Goldberger, president of Target.com and Mobile said, “Target.com already gets tens of millions of visitors every year from outside the US, and this test will give us even greater insight into how shoppers around the world engage with Target.”
To bring the service to the international market, Target has partnered with Borderfree, a Pitney Bowes Inc. company.
Checkout tested the international site by shopping both the laundry and personal care departments. A selection of four items, including a baby care gift set, laundry detergent, stain remover and eye make up, came to €26.91.
However, once shipping was added, as well as duties and taxes, the cost was a more prohibitive €77.68.
