Irish Distillers is reportedly planning to open a new distillery. Waterford and Youghal are being looked at as potential sites for the new distillery, reports the Irish Independent. The supplier of spirits and wines, has announced plans for a €10.5 million investment at Midleton Distillery, Cork. The investment will see the company increase its single pot still Irish whiskey production capacity by over 30%.
Venezuelan authorities have arrested two managers Smurfit Kappa, two days after the government temporarily took over its local unit in the city of Valencia. Sundde said they had been charged with price speculation, boycotting, destabilizing the economy, and smuggling. The group was ordered to immediately adjust its prices for all its products and accused the company of refusing to sell to certain local businesses. Smurfit Kappa did not respond to requests for comment.
Just Eat has announced the mouth-watering menus of this year’s restaurant partners at Flavourville at the Just Eat Retreat at Electric Picnic. Savoury sister restaurants Box Burger and Platform Pizza make their debut at EP while Daata’s brings its special Pakistani menu, which is vegan-friendly! Kroger has launched a pilot programme in Arizona that will see it use autonomous Toyota Priuses to deliver groceries. The project will allow for same-day/ next-day deliveries, at a flat rate of $6. The vehicle will be loaded with groceries at the store, and customers will need to unload it themselves, using a numerical code to gain access.
The first shipment of beef from Northern Ireland arrived in the Philippines for market sale. The Agriculture Minister, Dr. Perpetua McNamee welcomed the delivery, saying that it opens up new opportunities for growth that the government has been consulting with industry since 2015. Filipino officials announced last year that beef exports from the UK could recommence, alongside existing port, chicken and lamb exports.
Asda has announced it is removing plastic wrapping on swedes sold in its stores, as part of its 'Plastics Unwrapped' programme to cut down on plastics. The move will save Asda from using six million individual pieces of plastic a year. The 'Plastics Unwrapped' programme was launched in February and aims to remove avoidable plastic across various products at Asda. The retailer is confident that it will lead to a reduction of 14 tonnes' worth of plastic.
Diageo is set to launch a special range of edible straws in a variety of flavours to match with the group’s pre-mix cans. In a bid to eliminate single-use plastic-straws, the Company is paring these new edible alternatives with its Pimm’s & Lemonade, Gordon’s Gin & Tonic and Baileys & Iced Coffee Latte cans.
GlaxoSmithKline is seeking initial bids by mid-September for its India-focused Horlicks health nutrition business, which is expected to fetch more than $4 billion. The British drugmaker started a strategic review of Horlicks - a malt-based drink brand popular in India – and some smaller products, after buying Novartis out of their consumer healthcare venture for $13 billion in March.
