Christmas shopping in Dublin is about more than just what you buy, it’s about sharing in the atmosphere, according to Brian Howe from Carrolls Gift Shops. The retailer conducted a 1000 people strong survey examining Dublin’s most popular experiences, from the Best Christmas Lights to the Best Hot Chocolate. 23.3% of people voted ‘The Atmosphere’ as what they enjoy most about Christmas shopping in the city.

Black Friday global e-commerce sales growth outpaced Cyber Monday’s in major markets by more than 34% according to proprietary data by eShopWorld, one of the world’s leading cross-border commerce companies. The company also found that in these same markets, global e-commerce sales growth was higher on both Saturday and Sunday (November 24 and 25) than on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

More than 2,600 Tesco stores across the UK are taking part in the annual Tesco Food Collection from Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1 December, encouraging shoppers to donate long-life foods to The Trussell Trust and to food redistribution charity FareShare. More than a quarter of the food given out last year by Trussell Trust foodbanks was donated by Tesco customers and the network across the UK is hoping the supermarket’s annual collection will provide the food they need to support people in crisis this Christmas.

Coca-Cola European Partners is making a new strategic investment to purchase from Loop Industries a supply of 100% recycled PET (rPET) plastic to accelerate the increased use of recycled materials in the creation of its bottles. Ron Lewis, Chief Supply Chain Officer, CCEP, said: “This is an important investment as it directly supports our sustainability action plan, This is Forward. As part of This is Forward, we’ve committed to ensuring that at least 50% of the material we use for our PET bottles comes from recycled plastic by 2025.

Domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 642.4 million litres for October 2018. This was 20.2 % above the corresponding 2017 figure. Total milk sold for human consumption decreased annually by 0.3 % to 44.8 million litres. Butter production was up 15.5 % to 20,000 tonnes.

Belfast city centre will take “an important step” towards returning to full trading health on Monday (3 December) when some retailers that were forced to close following a devastating fire that destroyed Primark’s flagship store in the city will re-open for business for the first time in nearly four months. A substantial safety cordon has been in place since the fire which encompassed Primark’s flagship store in Bank Buildings and 14 nearby businesses.
