Bulmers’ cider makes a return to TV this month with its ‘Not a Moment Too Soon’ campaign, highlighting the brand’s core values of heritage and authenticity. The new ad has been directed by Irish filmmaker and writer, Aoife McArdle, who is best known for her work on music videos with global artists, including U2. Belinda Kelly, marketing manager for Bulmers, said that the new campaign is "a return to our roots and to the time it takes to craft an original. Time has always been a distinctive and defining quality of the Bulmers brand and its authenticity and Irishness are central to its wide appeal.”
Lidl has announced plans to open up to 15 additional stores in Northern Ireland. The expansion would make Lidl the biggest supermarket in Northern Ireland with more than 50 stores, up from its current 38. Lidl’s sales are growing faster in Northern Ireland than in the Republic or Britain.
Benny Gilsenan of Retailers Against Smuggling has warned that foreign criminal gangs see Ireland as “a great place to do business in”. Speaking to Dublin People, retailer Gilsenan said that there are "at least four gangs" controlling the illegal cigarette market in his area.
Blackwater Distillery has been officially opened in Cappoquin, Co. Waterford. The distillery was opened last week by Ann Phelan, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture. Invited guests were given a chance to sample the distillery’s first label, Blackwater No. 5 – a dry gin. The distillery is the first operating legal distillery in Waterford for 175 years.
The winner of the Easter lottery rollover €10.65 million jackpot bought their €4 quick pick ticket at Souhan’s Maxol filling station on Haggard Street, Trim, it has been revealed. The same shop has previously had a Winning Streak and Fame and Fortune winner, but this is its first big lottery win.
The news that small businesses can now apply for loans from Microfinance Ireland without having been previously refused by a bank, has been welcomed by Galway Chamber. President of Galway Chamber, Frank Green explained, “The removal of this requirement will open the scheme up and allow a greater number of innovative businesses access to credit and create jobs in our economy.”
Diageo is paying €20 million to buy out the remaining 50% of United National Breweries in South Africa, which is known for brewing traditional Zulu beer, sorghum. Diageo already had a 50% stake in the firm, but is set to pay $36 million to its partner Pestello Investments for full ownership.
Coca-Cola celebrated a century of its iconic curved bottles by paying tribute to pop culture legends through a series of large format billboards across Dublin from the 23rd of March to the 5th of April. The campaign featured idols such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, as well as contemporary stars like Rita Ora, enjoying Coca-Cola from its signature glass bottle.
