Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, 64, has announced his retirement from the company after he turned the small Seattle coffee show into the global brand we see today. The move has sparked rumours that he may run for president as a Democrat in 2020.
Revenue officers seized over 11,000 unstamped cigarettes, 2.3kgs of tobacco and over 160 litres of alcohol from across Ireland last week. The total value of the products seized was €24,730 in value and cost the Exchequer €12,440.
Belfast based Velocity Worldwide has developed Darius for Retail, a shopper data, personalisation and insight software platform that integrates with mobile and in-store proximity technology, such as Wi-Fi and beacons. The company, whose clients include Spar, said that Darius can also be used to create personalised shopping experiences and marketing campaigns for shoppers who opt-in.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar met with Love Irish Food member brands at Ireland’s Bloom festival last weekend. Love Irish Food brought back its ‘Meet the Makers’ marquee, where 27 member brands took part, and offered tastings of more than 20,000 biscuits, 30,000 gelatos and 40,000 burger samples.
Warmer weather, Markle and Sparkle and the Royal Wedding all led to the best month in recent years for retailers in the UK. In May, total sales increased by 4.1%, finally showing growth after a grim start to the year.
