Aldi Ireland And Too Good To Go Saved 200,000 Food Bags From Waste This Year

Aldi Ireland customers have saved a total of 207,000 Surprise Bags from going to waste in the past year, as part of the retailer’s partnership with Too Good To Go.

This means that Aldi customers have saved more than €1.6 million in the past year by engaging with the surplus food app.

Too Good To Go ‘Surprise Bags’ contain a range of products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates at a fraction of their original prices.

Each bag costs €3.99 to purchase, and its contents are worth at least €12.

To access these bags, shoppers can download the free Too Good To Go app and locate their nearest Aldi store before reserving a bag to collect at a specific time, decided by the store.

Aldi Ireland continues to address food waste through its partnership with the world’s largest surplus food app – Too Good To Go – which launched in 2023.

The nationwide initiative is expected to save a total of 132,000 kilograms of food from going to waste in 2024, and it is a key part of Aldi’s plan to reduce food waste.

‘A More Sustainable Future’

The national sustainability director at Aldi Ireland, Liz Fox, commented, “This partnership not only allows us to reduce food waste and demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable retailer, but has also allowed us to deliver real savings to our customers – €1.6 million already.

“We are proud of the number of meals saved in Ireland, which reflect how Aldi and Too Good To Go, together with our customers, can reduce food waste.

“We are committed to an ongoing effort to minimise food waste and provide our customers with more affordable prices.”

“This milestone is a testament to Aldi’s commitment to fighting food waste, and it’s amazing to see the significant impact we are driving together.

“Saving delicious food from going to waste not only carries huge benefits for our planet, but it can also be a great help in coping with the rising food costs we’re experiencing at the moment.

“I can’t wait to see our partnership continue to flourish and rescue even more good food from going to waste.”
