Aldi Ireland has launched a new baking competition, called Rise with Aldi, which will see one lucky baker’s bread stocked in all of the retailer’s 161 stores across Ireland.
The winning baker will also receive €15,000 as part of the prize.
Jonny Murphy – also known as the Hungry Hooker – and Síle Seoige launched the event with Aldi in Airfield Estate.
The competition aims to find the best amateur bread-bakers from across Ireland.
How To Enter
Entrants are to bake a loaf of bread of their choice and submit it for consideration by dropping it into their nearest Aldi bread collection point on 26 and 27 June.
Following the adjudication process, three finalists will be invited to the live final at Airfield Estate, in Co. Dublin, on 3 September.
The judges will crown one lucky winner, and Aldi will stock the winning bread in all 161 of its Irish stores from January 2025.
Rugby star turned baker Murphy will be on hand to offer his expert opinion as a celebrity judge alongside the buying director at Aldi, Laurence Kelly.
TV and radio broadcaster Seoige will also join in to host the live final.
‘Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunity’
Speaking at the launch, Murphy said, “As a keen baker myself, I am thrilled to be a judge of the new bread-baking Rise with Aldi competition.
“Through my Instagram, I know how passionate Irish people are when it comes to baking, and this competition represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for amateur bakers.
“I encourage everyone at home to enter and look forward to seeing everyone at the live final!”
Seoige commented, “As someone who loves celebrating Irish talent and traditions, I am delighted to be a part of Rise with Aldi.
“This competition is a fantastic opportunity for home bakers to showcase their creativity and skills.
“I can’t wait to meet the talented finalists and see the amazing breads they bring to the table.
“It’s going to be an exciting journey, and I’m honoured to be a part of it!”
Buying director Kelly added, “At Aldi, we are so excited about the launch of Rise with Aldi.
“We have always been passionate about supporting local businesses, and we are pleased to continue this tradition with this fresh new competition.
“Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a budding novice, this is your chance to showcase your skills and creativity in the kitchen.
“We invite all home bakers to enter, and we look forward to sampling the best fresh bread Ireland has to offer before naming our winner this September.”
