Aldi Ireland announced pay rises for staff this week, with the minimum hourly rate for store and warehouse workers increasing to €15.10 per hour.
The retailer announced the change on Tuesday, adding that employees will also receive additional increments following one, two and three years of service.
This latest increase means that pay rates for Aldi’s workforce have risen by 23% in the last four years.
The retailer noted that this exceeds the rate of inflation, which has risen by just under 20% in the same period.
A part of the company’s annual pay-and-benefits review, it is also enhancing employee benefits and well-being support packages.
These include improved neonatal leave of up to 12 weeks, to further support colleagues with new families, as well as enhanced maternity and paternity leave offers, to provide greater flexibility to employees, Aldi added.
‘Long-Standing Commitment’
Speaking about the pay increase, Aldi Ireland’s group managing director, Niall O’Connor, said, “This investment continues our long-standing commitment to leading the market on pay and to paying, at a minimum, the Living Wage to all our colleagues, which we have done every year since 2018.
“This year, we are pleased to be introducing an improved neonatal leave of up to 12 weeks, which will provide additional support to our colleagues with new families, while we are also enhancing our maternity and paternity leave offers, to provide greater flexibility and support to employees.”
The retailer currently operates 163 stores in Ireland, with locations in all 26 counties of the republic.
It has two regional distribution centres – one in Naas, Co. Kildare, and one in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork – and employs around 4,650 people across the country.
