Aldi Ireland has said that in terms of sales, Christmas 2021 was its best ever.
Aldi Ireland’s market share was the best performing for the 12 weeks to the 26 December 2021, achieving 11.6% market share and a sales growth of 14.2% over the last two years.
The discounter noted that the return of Kevin the Carrot in the standout TV advert of Christmas helped Aldi attract more new customers and propelled it to its best ever festive sales results.
Commenting Niall O’Connor, group managing director, Aldi, said, “Kevin the Carrot reminded Ireland last year that you do not need to be extravagant to be kind, just as you do not need to spend a lot to indulge your family with a little luxury at Christmas.”
Strong Demand
Aldi said that it saw strong demand for its beers, wines and spirits, during the period.
Stand out popular products included it Specially Selected Exquisite Irish Turkey as well as its Specially Selected range of Irish Hams.
During the run up to Christmas, customers snapped up almost eight million Brussels sprouts, over 500,000 mince pies and more than 200,000 bottles of champagne, sparkling wine and prosecco for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
O’Connor added, “There’s no doubt that 2021 was a long and difficult year for lots of people, but our amazing colleagues stopped at nothing as they came together to deliver the Christmas that our customers deserved.”
