Aldi Ireland today announced that it spent €1.1 billion with Irish suppliers in 2023, and it has confirmed its plans to continue this spend for 2024.
The discount retailer redoubled its commitment to its Irish supplier network, working with over 330 Irish food and drink producers nationwide.
Aldi finalised a number of contract deals across various products throughout the Irish supply base in 2023.
These included brands such as Lakeland Dairies, Glenpatrick Spring Water, Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt, Donnelly Fresh Produce, and Velo Coffee Roasters.
These deals represented an investment of €40 million. Aldi’s commitment to Irish suppliers remains a key pillar for the company.
Since 2018, the company has also invested in new suppliers through its Grow with Aldi supplier development programme.
The retailer has dedicated over €10 million to the programme, which provides new Irish food and drink companies with an opportunity to secure a listing in Aldi’s 161 stores.
Recently, they announced a €1 million deal with one of the recipients of Grow with Aldi, the Sibly Food Co.
‘Central To Our Success’
Last year saw Aldi open 6 new Irish stores, working with local communities by introducing two new investment programmes with a combined value exceeding €69 million.
The new stores are located in Adamstown, Athenry, Ballyhaunis, Cabra, Carrigaline and Kanturk.
Speaking on the reported spend, the managing director of buying and services with Aldi Ireland Colin Breslin spoke of the company’s commitment to supporting Irish suppliers.
“Our lasting supplier relationships are central to our success,” Breslin said. “And we are proud to work with so many Irish producers, opening opportunities for local companies to stock their produce on Aldi shelves.
“We look forward to continuing to support our supply base throughout 2024, while expanding our store network and bringing our unbeatable value to even more local Irish communities.”
