A new independent survey organised by Bord Bia has revealed that Aldi sells the highest proportion of fresh Irish meat that is labelled with the Bord Bia Quality Assurance Mark out of seven leading retailers surveyed.
The Bord Bia Retail Audit calculated the percentage of beef, chicken, pigmeat, duck and turkey products that display the Bord Bia Quality Mark. It discovered that 78% of Aldi’s fresh meat range showed the mark while other retailers averaged between 36% and 70%
Rob Farrell, Aldi’s group buying director said; “We’re very pleased with the result of the new survey. For consumers, it means that of any supermarket in Ireland, shoppers will find the highest proportion of Bord Bia approved meats at Aldi.”
Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled its list of Irish suppliers. "We’re working all the time on increasing the amount of Irish product in our fresh meat range, and we’re really concentrating on rashers and sliced meats as a next step,” Farrell added.
