Duncan Anniss has joined Tesco Ireland has its new finance director, following the announcement that current finance chief Adrian Lewis is leaving the retailer.
Anniss has held a variety of roles at Tesco over a 16 year career with the retailer, including commercial finance manager of Tesco's packaged foods business, financial controller of its Poland operation, and most recently, audit director at the UK business.
Notably, it was he that led the audit as to the extent of the accounting misstatement at Tesco's UK operation, which was revealed in September 2014.
A spokesperson from Tesco Ireland told Retail Intelligence that the appointment does not mean that the finance director roles for Tesco in the UK and Ireland are being consolidated, however.
Prior to working at Tesco, Anniss held roles with Betacom, LRC Products and hotel and restaurant chain Forte Group.
A report in last weekend's Sunday Times also revealed that Henry Dummer, Tesco Ireland marketing director and former Diageo customer marketing director, has been appointed to the board of its Irish operation.
Commenting on the appointments, IGD Retail Analysis said, "Though Tesco remains the market leader in Ireland it is being pressured by rivals. According to Kantar Worldpanel, Tesco's sales dipped by 3.3% in the 12 weeks to June 21st, giving it a market share of 25.1%, just ahead of SuperValu, which holds a 24.7% share, and Dunnes Stores. Dunnes now holds a 22.3% market share with implied sales growth of 6.3%, boosted by recent vouchering activity."
