Ballincollig Aldi Store Donates 25,000 Meals To Local Charities

Aldi, Ballincollig has donated 25,000 meals so far to local charities through its partnership with FoodCloud.

The German retailer first joined forces with FoodCloud, a company trying to minimise food waste by supermarkets and other retailers in 2014 and its Irish outlets has provided almost 11,000 kilograms of surplus food equating to a saving of €35,000 for the charities and community groups involved.

Ciara Hosford, Aldi’s Main Street Ballincollig Store Charity Champion said, “No one likes to see our surplus food go to waste and knowing this is going to and helping the local charities that do so much great work throughout Cork is something that we are hugely proud to be involved in.”

The charities across Cork city that have benefited from the donations include includingCuan Mhuire Farnanes, Ballincollig Family Resource Centre and O'Connell Court.

Iseult Ward, CEO, FoodCloud said, “The store’s effort is a great example of what can be achieved by working in partnership to benefit communities and help reduce food waste.”
