BWG Foods has teamed up with its exclusive premium coffee partners Insomnia, Bewley's and Seattle’s Best Coffee to introduce sustainable coffee cups.
In a statement, the convenience store operator projected that this move ‘will prevent 19 million coffee cups going to landfill each year.’
“Through our various retail brands, BWG Foods is the nation’s biggest seller of premium coffee to-go and with consumption levels continuing to rise, we recognise the importance of providing sustainable packaging solutions which meet the wants of consumers and are good for the environment,” Leo Crawford, group chief executive, BWG Group said.
100% Compostable
This initiative will see the immediate rollout of 100% compostable and fully biodegradable cups across BWG Foods’ retail brands: Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL – spanning more than 1,040 stores in Ireland.
“We are pleased to have the support of our three exclusive coffee partners and to be able to source the solutions via Irish packaging companies,” Crawford added.
Created from raw materials and plant sources, the sustainable coffee cups are certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Board, providing assurance to consumers that the cups have been sustainably sourced.
