BWG Foods has been shortlisted for two prestigious awards for its logistics-and-transport operation at the SEAI Energy Awards.
As a wholesale and retail company, BWG Foods operates one of Ireland’s largest and most complex logistics-and-distribution operations.
The set-up includes a 240,000-square-foot national distribution centre in Kilcarbery, Co. Dublin, and a modern delivery fleet that extends to approximately 120 vehicles.
The SEAI Energy Awards – which recognise exemplary performance and innovation in low-emissions transport – shortlisted the company in the transport category.
BWG’s inclusion as a finalist is based on its successful implementation of various alternative fuels and consolidated loads, in addition to its customised route plans.
In recent years, BWG has added a number of alternatively fuelled vehicles to its fleet, including those powered by bio-compressed natural gas (BioCNG) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) diesel alternatives, as well as the first electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in the FMCG space in Ireland.
The company was also shortlisted for the Sustainable Supply Chain Award in the 2024 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland (2024 CILT) Mobility & Supply Chain Awards.
These awards will take place on 24 October in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire.
BWG Foods’ sophisticated logistics-and-distribution operation serves its network of over 1,000 Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL stores.
It also serves 20,000 B2B customers through its wholesale division, which includes BWG Foodservice, Corrib Food Products, William’s Gate, and a nationwide network of 22 Value Centre cash-and-carry branches.
