More than a thousand retailers operating under the Spar, Eurospar, Mace and XL brands came to the Convention Centre Dublin this week, to meet 150 local and international suppliers at a BWG Foods trading day.
The event was staged to give suppliers exclusive access to sell to local independent retailers across its network of stores. The 2013 show provided access for 44 new indigenous Irish suppliers who have become listed BWG suppliers since last year’s event.
"This is the third successful staging of the BWG Trade Show – an event which has established itself firmly in the retail calendar as the industry’s leading retailer-supplier showcase," said Willie O’Byrne, Managing Director, BWG Foods. "As the leader in convenience retailing in Ireland, facilitating opportunities to come together under one roof is an important part of our offering, and in the current climate this engagement is more critical than ever.”
BWG also took the opportunity to announce that 2013 will see the opening of 80 new stores across its portfolio of brands.
"Significant investment over the last year in both our supply chain and chilled distribution channels has allowed us to focus on working with our retailers to deliver growth on the ground," said Leo Crawford, Group Chief Executive, BWG Group. "Our stores are a good barometer of the local economy, and I am pleased that these communities are showing signs of recovery.”
