BWG Foods recently won the award for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the All-Ireland Sustainability Awards in the La Mon Hotel & Country Club, in Belfast.
The award recognised BWG’s introduction of next-generation refrigeration (NGR) to the convenience store industry.
BWG has installed this cutting-edge technological advancement in a large number of Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL stores and supermarkets throughout Ireland.
The company developed NGR in conjunction with Anglo Irish Refrigeration, as well as Wirth Research.
Deploying an aerodynamic and thermal-dynamic specialist firm with a background in Formula 1 racing, the NGR uses airflow movements to enhance energy efficiency.
Intelligent controllers and a monitoring system deliver significant improvements in energy consumption, thus offering considerable reductions in energy use.
This adds up to an approximate 25% energy cost saving for a standard store, in addition to the important achievement of reducing carbon emissions.
The All-Ireland Sustainability organisation is a platform dedicated to uniting individuals, communities and businesses to create a greener future for the island of Ireland.
Now in their second year, the 2024 awards honoured the island’s leading sustainability efforts, celebrated innovative technologies and impactful community projects, and recognised the dedication of those driving environmental change, making Ireland a leader in sustainability.
